Antisocial Personality Disorder - 711 Words

Antisocial Personality Disorder is a psychological disorder in which an individual’s way of thinking and way of relating to others is dysfunctional and destructive. People with antisocial personality disorder usually have no regard for right and wrong and often disregard the rights and feelings of others (Mayo Clinic 1). They tend to antagonize and manipulate others for pleasure or personal benefit and often violate the law and end up in trouble most of the time, but show no remorse or regret for their actions. Some examples of the type of people with this disorder can include serial killers and politicians. Antisocial Personality Disorder symptoms may begin in childhood and become fully evident for most people during their 20s and 30s. In children, cruelty to animals, bullying behavior, social isolation, and poor school performance may be early signs of the disorder. Most of the people diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder show symptoms that violate the rights of others. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) states all the possible symptoms of the disorder: These individuals tend to fail to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors by performing acts that result in arrest. They are also masters of deception because they lie repeatedly by using aliases or by conning others for personal profit or pleasure.
